The plan
Five steps, four terms, and no hard feelings. Pass it on.
Five steps
Each step applies only if nothing has changed by then.
Nov. 21: Leave the seat empty
Ohio State, the last home game of the year; kickoff time was still to be announced as of Nov. 1, 2026.2 It's also Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day.44 If that's why you'd go, go.
No ticket yet? Don't buy one. That's the only part that touches the official count.
Have one? Stay home. You're free not to use it. If you sell or transfer it, follow Nebraska's ticket terms47 and use authorized channels, and remember it fills a seat.
Instead: watch with people you like. The line for your own bathroom is short. If you're near Lincoln, watch at a local place and tip well.If nothing changes: skip the bowl
Nebraska has five wins, one over an FCS team, and needs a sixth to be eligible, assuming the FCS win counts under NCAA rules.2 Don't buy bowl tickets or book the trip. Las Vegas and the Bronx will both survive. Traveling well is a fine tradition, and it's also a large free advertisement for a 6-6 or 7-5 season. Last year's trip ended in a 44-22 loss to Utah.29, 48 If players can opt out of a bowl, so can you. Watch it on TV. Your couch has never asked for a priority seating contribution.
By Feb. 11: Don't pay to move up the line
Seat choice for 2027 goes by your Husker Athletic Fund standing as of Feb. 11, 2027.10 If you were going to give extra just to improve your spot, that's the moment to ask yourself what you're buying. It's still a seat, and it still faces the same game. Meet any commitments you've already made.
Spring 2027: Decide on purpose
Seat selection starts in the spring,10 with fewer seats for 2027.11, 10 Read the terms below. Only what's left of this season can meet Terms 3 and 4 before then, so be clear on what we're asking: consider skipping a year. If you'd miss it too much, renew. Be clear about the cost: if you don't renew, you may not get your seats, or anything like them, back. For some families, that's the whole decision. Either way, you'll have decided it yourself.
2027: Skip the home opener
That's currently Northern Illinois on Sept. 4, the first home game in a smaller stadium,49 but Nebraska says the 2027 non-conference schedule will change, so check before you don't go.51 Don't buy that ticket. Up to 20,000 fewer seats means the official count will be easier to keep,10 and the empty seats will say more than the count.
The terms for coming back
"Commit to a culture of winning" makes a nice slogan, but you can't check it. So here's what we mean, in a form anyone can verify. For a program with this budget, these are obnoxiously easy.
Term 1: Show the count
For every home game, publish scanned attendance, and the number of tickets, if any, in each sellout sold at a discount or bought in bulk by donors or sponsors. Here's why it matters. This costs almost nothing, and the athletic department could do it this week. It's already shown it can count to 416.
Term 2: Beat an AP-ranked team
Just one. It was last done on Sept. 17, 2016,32 and 33 tries have passed since.
Term 3: Finish a season above .500 against power-conference teams
That's 31-64 since 2017, with no season above .500, and 15-22 under Rhule, by our count.27 Akron doesn't count.
Term 4: Finish in the final AP poll
No. 25 will do. We'll throw the parade ourselves. It was last done in 2012.28
Not a title. Not 1995. Meet all four, and come home, loudly. If Nebraska beats a ranked Ohio State on Nov. 21, Term 2 is done, and we will be delighted to have been wrong.
House rules
- Be decent. No harassing players, coaches, staff, their families, or anyone who chooses to attend. Anyone doing that isn't with us.
- Stay legal. Don't trespass, disrupt the game, break your ticket terms, or back out of a commitment you've made. Staying home is the whole protest. Pants optional.
- Don't judge the person in the next seat. Going is fine. The point is to choose.
